On a recent trip to the Lowcountry my soon to be new sister-in-law treated us to Diggity Doughnuts, a popular vegan/GF friendly donut shop near downtown Charleston. While everybody else indulged in some delectable vegan donuts—including an exotic spicy Sriracha donut that my brother-in-law fell in love with—I opted for the gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate iced doughnut.
Check out that selection!
Now, I’ve had gluten-free donuts on plenty of occasions. And while they’ve been tasty, all I could ever seem to get my little paws on were cake donuts so I had yet to get 100 percent donut satisfaction. For me, half of the fun of eating donuts is the texture. I craved that air puffed feeling in my mouth when I bit down into one. The chocolate glaze was another important element that needed to be “just right.”
Can you say yummmmmm?
Boy, was I was thrilled to discover that Ambergre’ Sloan, owner of Diggity Doughnuts, had mastered the magic formula! My taste buds were disco dancing as I ate her purely blissful dessert creation. My dream of finding the perfect GF donut had been realized. The only issue I have now is that Diggity Doughnuts isn’t in Portland!!
